On September 6, 1947, River Oaks unveiled its very first playground at 1521-1579 Glenwick Drive! Originally named Thurston Park, it held a special place in our community's heart. In 1962, our city established its inaugural Parks Board, leading to the renaming of the park to McGee Park, honoring the memory of James David McGee, a hero who gave his life in World War II. Thanks to the World Champion Texas Rangers Baseball Club we have two baseball fields right here in River Oaks! ⚾

But wait, there's more! Alongside the baseball fun, we've got picnic tables, a basketball court, and ample parking for all of our visitors to enjoy. 🏀

Unfortunately, our beloved playground equipment had to be removed in 2023 due to wear and tear. But fear not! The River Oaks Parks Board is on a mission to revitalize McGee Park, and we're counting on YOU! We've applied for a Kaboom! Grant, and with your support, we hope to transform our park into an even better place for families to play and bond.
Stay tuned for updates on how you can get involved as a volunteer! 🛠️🌳 Plus, if you're feeling generous and want to contribute to the beautification of our park, consider making a tax-deductible donation. Every dollar makes a difference! 💰
Did you know that a portion of $1 donations from our monthly water bills goes towards enhancing our parks? In 2024, thanks to these contributions, we we
re able to install a vibrant red water fountain near the concession stands. It's these small acts of generosity that truly make River Oaks shine! 💧✨🎉
